Thom Hines
In addition to teaching Interaction Design at PSU, Thom is a designer and developer combining thoughtful user experience design with cutting-edge technology and compelling narratives to create engaging, intuitive and unique experiences for his users and viewers. Thom has produced work for CNN, MagnanMetz Gallery, Grizzly Creek Films, The History Channel, and others. He has also done app and sound design, editing and produced an award-winning short film, You Will See Us, and created the world’s first networked hybrid app/card party game, Super Nova Smash!
Thom’s most long-term work, however, centers around making tools that foster creativity and productivity in their users. In addition to the many open source tools, libraries and resources Thom has contributed to the web development industry (square1 image slider, validin, repeaterrrr, and cinch to name a few), he has designed and built a number of high-end digital products like MindHive–a task manager built to bring order and focus to its users chaotic to-do list—and Tinker–the fastest, easiest, most intuitive website editor ever made. His most recent project is GradSync, a tool for helping students understand their school’s requirements and better plan for graduation.
Thom received an MFA of Design and Technology at Parsons The New School in New York.
