Workshop
Workshop offerings change every term! Previous terms have included the following workshops, listed below as examples. Check course offerings for the next term to see what’s coming up!
WKSP: EXPERIMENTAL PATTERN Join us for a fast-paced and hands-on 3 days of experimental pattern making. Lead with your creativity and learn how to create and apply patterns to all sorts of different products and environments. This is a 3 day workshop intensive. Students must be able to attend all three days of the course. An hour for lunch is included in day long courses.
WKSP: THE COMMA In this class, students examine the challenges of under-represented groups in the creative industries and learn skills to expand their professional networks through guest speakers, collaborative projects and community events.
WKSP: MANIFESTO IN LIFE & WORK The Manifesto in Life and Work Manifestos serve as helpful tools for synthesizing core ideals and recording plans for action around them. Students in this workshop will study manifestos from a variety of sources—political, creative, personal, and more. They will then utilize their learnings to write and design a manifesto for their own aims in life and work.
WKSP: RISOGRAPH BASICS This workshop is a great place to start if you’re new to riso or want a refresher! We’ll dive deeply into risograph history, an overview of how these machines work, the stencil-duplicator process, and the quirks and fun (sometimes unpredictable) outcomes of riso printing. The main focus of this class is EXPERIMENTATION. We will be making print editions, zines, buttons, and more!
WKSP: RISO EXPLORATION This workshop introduces students to small edition printing using Risograph machines. Students will explore all steps of the print and book making processes, including file prep, color separation, risography techniques, binding, and more, leaving the workshop with a number of prints, books, and other ephemera over three small projects. Previous experience with RISO is not required, and students can create new work or re-envision existing work as they experiment with the versatile duplication medium. This is a term long workshop. This course is restricted to graphic design majors.
WKSP: THE BUSINESS OF DESIGN The Business of Design Are you more comfortable with laying out type than writing a proposal? You might need this crash course in design business fundamentals. We’ll cover the essential skills required to run your own practice, whether as a freelancer or a small studio. Topics will span how to network and pitch yourself, win clients, price your work, write proposals, handle feedback, negotiate, set and meet expectations, and navigate challenges. This course is restricted to graphic design majors.
