Sean Schumacher is a designer and artist from Las Vegas, Nevada. He has specialized in creating projects for artists and arts institutions for over a decade, and most recently served as the sole designer at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art from 2014 to 2017. His hybrid art/design practice often intersects with themes of place and how we connect across time using the built environment. Among other things, he’s written a dictionary of forgotten place names, thrown a birthday party for the oldest building on his alma mater’s campus, and made a map as big as the place it represents. Sean helps to manage the School of Art+Design’s in-house design studio, A+D Projects, with Kate Bingaman-Burt.
