Illustrator, Book Layout Design, and Developmental Editor for Book Project

Darcy Ottey, a leader in the field of youth rites of passage, is looking for young creative professionals to contribute to the completion of her book Rites & Responsibilities: A Guide to Growing Up. The manuscript is written for and about young adults, ages 18-30 with particular attention to the voices and experiences of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ youth. She is seeking to hire an Illustrator, Book Layout Designer, and Structural/ Developmental Editor for short-term contract work. These opportunities are open to anyone with the appropriate skillsets who has interest in rites of passage and who is hoping to gain professional freelance experience in the field of book design and publishing. Young creative professionals ages 18-30, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ folx are especially encouraged to apply.

Illustrator: A young artist to create 20 hand-drawn and/or digital line art illustrations and graphics to accompany the text. Compensation of $1000 will be provided to the selected illustrator.

Book Layout Designer: A young professional with experience in book design and publishing to handle all interior and exterior layout and design for the print and digital versions of the book. Compensation of $20/hr for up to 80 hours of work totalling $1,600 will be provided upon completion.

Editor: A young professional with experience in editing to provide full developmental and structural edits to the manuscript. Compensation of $20/hr for up to 80 hours of work totalling $1,600 will be provided upon completion.
