Graphic Designer

Description of Work:
We are looking for a graphic designer to collaborate on and design print and digital collateral
with a community-centered look and feel for holiday cards. This project runs between
November and December, with deliverable deadlines varying depending on the item. The
vision is to have one cohesive design/element used for multiple formats.

Theme:
Envisioning a world where a Just Transition has been realized.

Graphic Design themes:
● People
● Buses, public transportation
● Youth
● Community power

The pieces (with approximate time frames) include:
1. Direct mail holiday card with insert – A1 or A6, depending on concept (for end of
November delivery)
2. Image banners for our website (early December)
3. Image banners for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (early December)
4. Image banner for emails (early December)
5. All vector files

Participating artists will:
● Be paid $500 for the commissioned work
● Co-own the artwork with OPAL and receive recognition in all instances of its
appearance

OPAL will:
● Use the artwork in printed and digital communications during the end of year and
beyond, with possible modifications (e.g. cropping, text overlay)
● Provide feedback throughout the creation process

Timeline (some flexibility may be needed in deadlines once the designer is chosen):
● Post RFP: 10/6
● Proposals Due: 10/27
● Applicants Notified: 11/3
● Virtual meeting for Concept Discussion: 11/3–10
● Holiday Card design draft: 11/17
● Receive Feedback and make edits: 11/19–24
● Final Holiday Card design: 11/29
● Send Holiday Card design to print shop: 12/1
● Email, social media banners: 12/3
● Print shop proof: 12/3
● Get back from print shop by: 12/10
● Holiday Card mailing done by: 12/13

Estimated project time: 15–20 hours total

Who should apply?
We are seeking Portland or Oregon-based artists who have a connection with the communities
we organize and who have the ability to meet virtually 1–2 times to discuss deliverables. We
welcome submissions from new artists, as well as those with more experience. Feel free to
