Position Summary
Working closely with the director of design and the director of creative projects, the graphic designer will design projects from conception to publication that communicate Reed College’s image and message. The graphic designer will create designs and layouts for various mediums, including print (e.g. publications, direct mail, posters, presentations) and digital (e.g. websites, HTML email, social media) while maintaining true to Reed communication and visual identity guidelines. The public affairs office is small and multifaceted. We value creativity, flexibility, initiative, and integrity. The graphic designer must demonstrate an ability to work independently, but also collaboratively while embodying these values.

We seek a dynamic Graphic Designer to join our institution.

Position Summary

This is a full-time, 37.5 hour/week, exempt position with a starting pay of $36,500 per year. Essential Functions
Develop concepts and designs for a wide variety of communication materials, such as brochures, presentations, HTML emails, posters, postcards, visual displays, and websites for various audiences, including prospective students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, and beyond
Utilize existing communication and visual identity guidelines to reinforce Reed’s brand identity, themes, messages, and image
Effectively communicate about projects with clients, vendors, and colleagues in person, through email, over the phone and via project management software systems (e.g. Basecamp)
Provide job specifications; establish deadlines; create, check, and deliver proofs; deliver creative to printer; coordinate distribution
Work with external vendors (e.g. photographers and illustrators) to ensure expectations are met, budget is followed, and high quality execution of final creative is delivered
Manage production schedules and prioritize daily workload, ensuring that work is completed on time
Updates existing publications
Edit digital images, including photographs, illustrations, and maps
Accurately archive projects and images
Manage projects from start to finish under the supervision of the director of design
Education and Experience Required
Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
BA with concentration in graphic design, art, or communications
At least one year of work experience in a graphic design position
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Strong design, layout, and typography skills
Knowledge of printing and print production
Direct experience with final preparation and packaging of print materials
Experience working on a Mac platform is required
High level of proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
Experience working within a project management system (e.g. Basecamp)
Working understanding of web communications
Working understanding of social media and various new media creative design
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to convey concept and design choices when collaborating with others
Strong grammar and proofreading skills; high attention to details and accuracy
Ability to work independently or in collaboration with other designers, writers, editors
Dependability, as evidences by a strong track record of following through with both large and small assignments
Able to accept and incorporate feedback from colleagues and clients with a positive attitude and problem-solving approach
Ability to complete assignments under pressure and tight deadlines
Knowledge of branding practices and working with graphic standards
Manage multiple projects simultaneously and with clear organization
Respect for all constituents of the college – students, parents, donors, faculty, and administration
Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods of time
