INTERNSHIP TITLE: Digital/Print Production Intern

LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: 2 months, 15 – 20 hours per week (flexible)

Mercy Corps responsibilities
For the duration of this internship assignment the intern will receive:
Workspace and computer station within Mercy Corps Headquarters
All materials necessary for this internship
Intern will remain responsible for all costs associated with:
Transport to and from the office
All other costs associated with this internship
The Kosovo Commemorative Book is a communication piece (most likely an A5 size booklet) to capture 22 years of Mercy Corps’ work in Kosovo. By 30 September 2015, Mercy Corps Kosovo will finish its last project. Final evaluations and audits will continue throughout October, and we are likely to financially closedown end of November 2015. Ideally, we would like to present the Commemorative Book to key actors, stakeholders, donors, etc. during our closing down period throughout October/November.
To that end, Mercy Corps is looking for an intern to take on the collecting of information, editing and organizing content, and the layout design in order to produce a draft booklet to be circulated to MC staff for revision and approval.
The intern will learn
Effective communication with global team players in order to collect necessary information
Understanding of successes and lessons learned of Mercy Corps’ projects in Kosovo
Raw data on number of projects delivered by Mercy Corps in the Balkans (internal GAIT website)
Collect photographs and anecdotes from existing MC staff who have worked in Kosovo
Design layout of booklet, together with MC program staff
Edit the information and anecdotes to develop a draft narrative of the Commemorative book
IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/S in Communications or related field completed or in progress
Proven graphic design skills – a sample will be requested
Strong research and qualitative and quantitative data collection skills
Strong design skills related to production of communication materials
Ability to work both independently and on a team on short-term projects with tight deadlines
Proven communication skills, both formal writing and regular correspondence
This internship is based in Portland, Oregon. Our offices are ADA certified and accessible via mass transit.
