Communications & Marketing Specialist

Position Summary
This is a part-time student position in the Campus Sustainability Office (CSO) within Finance & Administration.

Position Description
This position will report to the Education & Outreach Coordinator with a focus on developing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of awareness-building communications and marketing materials to support programs, activities, and events that advance sustainable behaviors on campus.

Essential Duties
Coordinate and implement effective outreach campaigns, tools, events, educational materials, and online content. This may include:
1. Coordinate and update content on Office website (https://www.pdx.edu/sustainability/campus-actions):
a. Update and maintain content in accordance with branding and accessibility requirements
b. Improve relevance and flow of information provided on website
c. Ensure that visitors can easily access resources and know how to seek additional information
2. Effectively promote Campus Sustainability programs:
a. Contribute, on behalf of the Campus Sustainability Office, to the maintenance of Sustainability at PSU & PSU Recycles Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts
b. Coordinate marketing of office programs (Climate Champions, Energy Conservation Guidelines, Green Events Guide, etc) to University staff, faculty, and students
c. Create and enhance newsletters, brochures, signs, presentations, and other forms of communication
3. Develop, revise, and maintain educational resources and materials:
a. Graphic design, editing, and content development
b. Help produce visually-pleasing communication resources for benchmarking activities
4. Support Campus Sustainability events and represent Office at University events:
a. Work with staff to promote annual Sustainability Celebration and Chuck-it For Charity events
b. Assist with tabling at events on behalf of Sustainability at PSU
5. Research best practices and successful frameworks for communications and engagement at other universities and organizations
a. Work with Office staff to incorporate best practices

Additional Duties
1. Occasional assistance with ongoing program management and logistics (we are a team!)
2. Assist with website transition prep
a. Maintain website transition plans
b. Identify and remove outdated content
3. Assist with topic-specific toolkits and resources, such as:
a. Green purchasing
b. Green leasing
4. Engage with and represent CSO in other groups as needed


Minimum requirements
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills
• Experience with marketing, communications, outreach, and/or education,
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills
• Knowledge and interest in sustainability, resource stewardship, and climate action
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Familiarity with graphic design and/or website content management, including Adobe Suite
• Student in good academic standing in a PSU program

Preferred qualifications
• Experience with sustainability-related outreach and education
• Demonstrated creativity towards communications materials
• Enrollment in a related degree program
• At least one year of availability / student status

Compensation& Hours
• Approximately 15 hours/week
• $12-$14/hour, dependent on experience.
• Weekly schedule and start date are negotiable.
