The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit that builds the people power it takes to win hard-fought campaigns and make real change on some of the most important issues of our day. Right now, the Fund is hiring activists to work on campaigns for America’s leading grassroots action groups – here in Portland, we’re working with Environment Oregon on a campaign to hold polluters accountable for breaking environmental laws.
Oil, chemical, gas, pharmaceutical, and agricultural companies are getting away with dumping their waste into our clean air and clean water. Far too often the government fails to step in and stop them, even though they know that the companies are breaking the law and threatening our public health. There have already been 274 facilities across the state of Oregon that have allegedly violated the Clean Water Act in 2017. With Scott Pruitt overseeing the Environmental Protection Agency, we cannot count on our government to enforce our environmental laws.
Environment Oregon and our partners are filing citizen lawsuits against polluters. We currently have active cases in 5 states, and we’re investigating more cases. We know this is an effective strategy. We sued Exxon Mobil when they violated the Clean Air Act over 16,000 times, and they were ordered to pay a $20 million penalty. The unfortunate reality is that these companies have millions of dollars to fight us on these cases.
We’re hiring campaign staff to help build the public support and the resources that it will take to win and protect our environment.
We’re hiring for both leadership and entry level positions. Apply today to help make change happen, or call for more information!
