The students will become “artists–in– residence” at the school on collaborative projects  with King students to operate King School Museum of Contemporary Art. Martin Luther King Jr. School. The primary objective of this course is to deepen the understanding of Art and Social Practice through experiential learning at King School in NE Portland. Students will be exposed to a variety of perspectives on art’s role in contemporary education via readings, discussion, project development, and collaboration within a public school. By participating in the vision and development of the King School Museum of Contemporary Art (KSMoCA), students will also become more aware of the methodologies and approaches of Social Practice as a vehicle for social change and community development. Open to non-majors for 4 credits.
