Our first Show & Tell of the spring is with Mike Davis, Creative Director of Burlesque of North America.

Based in Minneapolis, MN, Burlesque of North America is an award-winning creative studio focusing on graphic arts and high quality screenprinting. After forming from the ashes of revered and reviled graffiti magazine Life Sucks Die, the Burlesque crew, led by creative directors Wes Winship and Mike Davis, have gone on to create screenprinted concert posters, branding systems, t-shirts, stage graphics, and more for a broad range of clients including Nike Sportswear, Arcade Fire, Kidrobot, Stones Throw Records, Target, Rhymesayers Entertainment, Chromeo, Phish, and many others. Inspired by graffiti, psychedelic concert posters of the 1960s, and everyday graphics from the 1970s and ‘80s, Burlesque’s artwork looks at once to the past for inspiration and off into the future for motivation.

In 2003, the crew organized and hosted the very first Dre Day party – a celebration of one of hip hop’s most prolific and influential artists. The party has gone on to inspire annual Dre Day parties in dozens of cities across the map. Burlesque’s artwork and design has been featured in publications such as Juxtapoz, Mass Appeal, and XLR8R, and they have exhibited their work in The Seventh Letter Gallery (Los Angeles), Cotton Candy Machine (Brooklyn), Amplified Art (Raleigh NC), as well as their own CO Exhibitions gallery in Minneapolis.
